Level 1: Operator

M1.1 Setting up your TheOpenPresenter account

• Demonstrate logging in to theopenpresenter.com unaided
• Is a member of the Hope Newcastle organization
• Able to open and find this Sunday’s project in the list

M1.2 Basics of screen setup

• Demonstrate presenting in full screen to the main screen
• Demonstrate controlling the service from a phone/tablet

M1.3 Basics of lyrics operation

• Demonstrate understanding of operating and following the song during service
• Demonstrate clicking before the line is sung rather than after
• Demonstrate understanding of song sections: verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge and continuations
• Demonstrate understanding of hand signs
• Demonstrate clearing the screen during free worship, and bringing the text back
• Demonstrate reasonable recovery when the song does not follow the plan

M1.4 Basics of slide operation

• Demonstrate awareness and readiness to change the slides when needed
• Demonstrate running the pre-service and post-service slides unprompted
• Demonstrate switching between lyrics and slides

M1.5 Our setup

• Demonstrate turning on the radio and checking that it works

M1.6 Effective communication

• Communicates when something is abnormal (eg: will be late)
• Communicates/asks when they are not sure about something
• Communicates when they have any concern
• Gives an early notice when they cannot make a Sunday

M1.7 When things go wrong

• Demonstrate staying calm when something breaks
• Demonstrate asking for help when they are not sure how to fix it

M1.8 Heart of worship

• Demonstrate arriving on the intended time

Level 2: Senior Operator

M2.1 Owning the setup

• Demonstrate setting the system up alone, in the right order
• Demonstrate setting up the projector
• Demonstrate shutting down and packing away properly
• Demonstrate a good understanding of how the whole system works
• Demonstrate a good understanding of why we do it the way we do

M2.2 Presentation methods

• Demonstrate presenting to both the projector and the TV
• Demonstrate understanding of the fallback when the usual route is unavailable

M2.3 Preparing for a Sunday

• Demonstrate building a full set for a Sunday, unaided
• Demonstrate adding the slides to the set
• Demonstrate getting slides when it is a guest speaker
• Demonstrate finding and fixing songs and sections in the Songbook
• Demonstrate asking and setting song arrangement especially when the song is complicated

M2.4 Church slide design

• understanding the importance of slide readability, contrast and how to fix it
• Understanding when design becomes distraction (eg: inappropriate background during worship)
• Demonstrate understanding of our style
• Demonstrate creating slide that fits the above criteria (eg: for a guest speaker)

M2.5 Advanced lyric operation

• Demonstrate ability to track the lyrics correctly and well on time
• Demonstrate a deeper understanding of musical movement
• Demonstrate ability to predict the next song section based on musical movement
• Demonstrate ability to add song that was not planned in the middle of worship
• Demonstrate handling repeats, unplanned bridges and free worship without losing the set
• Demonstrate deep familiarity of every song on the list
• Demonstrate ability to worship alongside operation

M2.6 Operating miscellaneous media types

• Demonstrate loading and running video, music, and bible passages
• Demonstrate some understanding of the different plugins in TOP

M2.7 Clickers and preacher control

• Demonstrate setting up the clicker and briefing the person using it
• Demonstrate setting up the phone remote and briefing the person using it
• Demonstrate taking control back when they get lost
• Demonstrate turning off and packing the clicker

M2.8 Relationship with audio

• Demonstrate getting audio through to the mixer
• Demonstrate briefing the sound desk for anything that needs audio
• Demonstrate agreeing who controls what

M2.10 Diagnosing and fixing

• Demonstrate working out what is actually wrong rather than trying things at random
• Demonstrate fixing the common faults without help

M2.11 Owning the conversations

• Demonstrate running every pre-service conversation themselves
• Demonstrate asking for better slides when what they were given will not read
• Demonstrate starting the conversation when something seems off

M2.12 Sensitive to the Holy spirit

• Demonstrate understanding of the moments where nothing on screen is the best thing to do
• Demonstrate understanding of moments when more lyrics on the screen is better
• Knowing when to focus on the Holy spirit rather than operating

Level 3: Mentor

M3.1 Reading ahead

• Demonstrate looking a few weeks ahead and picking out which differences matter
• Demonstrate preparing a non-standard service so the operator’s Sunday feels normal

M3.2 Confidence monitors

• Demonstrate setting up confidence monitor for the worship leader or preacher

M3.3 Diagnosing the weird one

• Demonstrate working out an unfamiliar fault from first principles
• Demonstrate writing it up so the next person does not start from scratch

M3.4 Being the phone call

• Demonstrate being reachable and calm when an operator rings

M3.5 People & longevity

• Demonstrate capability to spot things that can be improved and communicating them
• Demonstrate looking after the Visual team with love
• Demonstrate helping one another when they need help

M3.6 Training & teaching

• Demonstrate taking one volunteer from one level to the other
• Demonstrate capability of training people through technical topics
• Demonstrate giving constructive feedback to people
