Welcome. Thank you for saying yes to serve in the visual team.

To start with, we want you to observe. Sit beside the operator of the day and watch what they do.

What we ask of you

• Turn up at the time the team turns up, not at the time the service starts.
• Say when you don’t understand something. Nobody expects you to already know.
• Take notes.

What to observe

• Before: what time the team arrives, what they prepare, who they talk to and what they ask.
• During: what they do and where the operator is looking before each change, and every time the screen goes blank.
• When it breaks: what they do when issues happens.
• After: what gets packed down, and what the team says in the debrief.

Walk the setup with a leader: computer → cable → projector → screen. Where the power is, what order things go on and off, where the sound feed goes.
