Introduction
Welcome. Thank you for saying yes to serve in the logistics team.
To start with, we want you to observe. Come with the crew that unloads the car, stay to the end, and watch what they do. Carry things when you’re asked, but don’t worry about knowing where anything goes yet.
What we ask of you
Section titled “What we ask of you”- Turn up when the crew turns up, not when the service starts. We’re the first ones in.
- Stay to the end. Pack down is half of this job and it’s the half people skip.
- Say when you don’t understand something. Nobody expects you to already know.
- Take notes.
What to observe
Section titled “What to observe”- The car: what comes out, in what order, and who carries what.
- Setup: where each thing goes in the room, and what has to be done before something else can happen.
- The checks: what the crew tests before they walk away from an area.
- When it breaks: what they do when something is missing or doesn’t power up.
- Pack down: how cables are rolled, what goes in which bag, and how the car is loaded.
Modules
Section titled “Modules”I.1 Why we do this
Read the Principles section, then talk it through with the lead.
I.2 Joining the team
Induction: expectations, rota commitment, what to do when you can’t make it.
I.3 Introduction to the equipment
A walk through what we own and where it lives: Hope Terminal, the instrument bags, the speakers and stands. See where everything lives and learn the common terms so the rest of this pathway makes sense.
I.4 Introduction to a Sunday
Shadow a full Sunday from unload to reload. Read the setup overview beforehand so you can follow what’s happening.
I.5 Lifting and safety
What not to lift on your own, and how to carry the heavy and awkward items without hurting yourself. Level 1 goes further into looking after the equipment itself.
